How do I troubleshoot a situation where Internet Explorer modifies the page to help prevent cross-site scripting?

Answer / Solution

Cross-Site Scripting Issue Explained

Overview

At times, Internet Explorer will flag the properties window for a job with a cross scripting message. You can likely see the message at the top of the pop-up browser window stating "Internet Explorer has modified this page to help prevent cross-site scripting. Click here for more information." This is a very rare occasion but can happen when it falsely identifies data in the window as having an issue. In order to get around this issue, you will want to disable the XSS filter in Internet Explorer for your trusted sites. You can accomplish this via the following steps:

Tasks:

First make sure https://www.infraware.com is in the trusted sites.

  • 1- Go to Internet Explorer --> Choose tools --> Choose Internet Options.
  • 2- Click on the Security Tab.
  • 3- Click on Trusted Sites (Green check box) and then click on the "Sites" button.
  • 4- Type https://www.infraware.com into the "Add this website to the zone" box and then press Add.
  • 5- Press Close.
  • To disable the cross scripting check:
  • 1- Click on the Trusted sites (Green check box).
  • 2- Click on Custom Level... button found towards the bottom.
  • 3- Scroll almost to the bottom where you will see "Enable XSS Filter".
  • 4- Choose the "Disable" radio button.
  • 5- Press OK.

After you have made this change, pull the properties window up again and it should not flag the cross scripting situation.
